MARINERS ANNOUNCE BROADCAST TEAM FOR 2007 SEASON
Dave Sims and Mike Blowers to Partner with Dave Niehaus and Rick Rizzs

The Seattle Mariners today announced that Dave Sims, a versatile and experienced radio and television sports host and announcer, and Mike Blowers, former Mariners third baseman and KOMO 1000 News post-game analyst, are joining the Mariners broadcast team for the 2007 season.  Mariners games are telecast on FSN Northwest and CW11/KSTW TV.

Sims, who will focus on play-by-play duties on Mariners television broadcasts, is familiar to sports fans across the country for calling Major League Baseball and college basketball games for ESPN, as well as NFL play-by-play on Westwood One/CBS Radio Sports, including this Saturday’s Philadelphia Eagles vs. New Orleans Saints playoff game and the NFC Championship game on January 21.

Blowers, who will serve primarily as the Mariners television analyst, is a long-time fan favorite who did three tours with the Mariners (1992-1995, 1997, 1999).  For the last four years, Blowers has been the pre and post-game analyst on KOMO 1000 News broadcasts of Mariners games.

“We are pleased to add Dave Sims and Mike Blowers to our broadcast team with Dave Niehaus and Rick Rizzs.  Dave Sims is a pro that loves what he is doing and loves baseball.  Mike has been excellent on KOMO Radio’s Mariners programming and will now bring his perspective to the games.  We believe Mariners fans will enjoy their work on our game broadcasts,” said Randy Adamack, Seattle Mariners Vice President of Communications.

“This is a spectacular opportunity for me and my family.  This is a chance for me to do something I’ve always wanted to do—work for a Major League Baseball team from game one on Opening Day through the World Series.  I’m excited to work with Dave Niehaus.  He’s a legend.  When you think of the Seattle Mariners you think of Dave Niehaus,” said Sims.

“This is something I’ve been working toward for the last six years,” said Blowers.  “I really got my Major League start playing with the Mariners in 1992 and had my best years professionally with Seattle.  This is where I grew up and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to once again be a part of the organization.”

Sims and Blowers join long-time announcers Dave Niehaus and Rick Rizzs.  The plan is for Niehaus to spend the first few innings of each game in the TV booth with Blowers, and then move to the radio booth with Rizzs.  For most games, Rizzs will work only on the radio side.  Sims and Blowers will team up when Niehaus goes to the radio booth.

Sims professional career began in 1975 as a sportswriter for the New York Daily News where he covered college sports, professional soccer and the NBA.  His broadcasting career began in 1982.  Sims won an Emmy in 1993 for his play-by-play work on Big East Football games.  He has also worked as a reporter and anchor for WCBS-TV and as a talk show host for MSG Network and WFAN-AM in New York.  Sims is a native of Philadelphia.  He is a 1975 graduate of Bethany College in West Virginia.  He and his wife Abby have two sons.

Blowers was a stand-out at Bethel High School in Spanaway and was a Pac-10 Triple Crown winner while with the University of Washington Huskies.  During his 10-year Major League career, Blowers also played for the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland Athletics.  Blowers lives in Graham, Washington, with his wife Nicole and their four children.
